Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

I love stuffed cabbage rolls. I remember my mother cooking this when I was a lil girl. Of course she used the traditional red sauce( which I don’t care for on mine) however these are still a favorite of mine. They are quick and easy to make, and they  usually don’t call for a lot of ingredients, so that makes it inexpensive!

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Cabbage rolls are the perfect working mom dinner. You’ve got your protein, carbs, and veggies all in one perfect roll! Try this recipe with or without a pasta sauce for a simple, healthy dinner.

Prep Time 15 minutes minutes
Cook Time 45 minutes minutes
Total Time 1 hour hour
Servings 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1/3 cup green bell peppers diced
  • 3 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1/3 cup white onion diced
  • 2 cups white rice cooked
  • 1 tbsp seasoning salt
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 8-10 cabbage leaves

Instructions

  • In a bowl, add ground beef, green bell peppers, cabbage, and onions. Mix together until well-combined. I used my (clean!) hands, since that’s most effective.
  • Next, mix in cooked white rice. You can use brown rice or breadcrumbs in you like.
  • Add seasoning salt, garlic powder, and onion powder to mixture. If your seasoning salt doesn’t have pepper, add about 1 tbsp of pepper too.
  • Spoon the meat into the center of your cabbage rolls and fold in the edges. You can either use a toothpick to keep them closed, or place them face down in the baking dish (like I did).
  • OPTIONAL: Traditionally, people like a red sauce on their cabbage rolls. If that’s what you like, go ahead and pour that over your cabbage rolls (you could use tomato sauce with garlic, onions, and seasoning, or pre-made sauce).
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake at 350 for 40-45 minutes.
  • Serve & enjoy!

Rosie, I have not had stuffed cabbage rolls in a very long time. Something like 10 years. I can’t wait to try these. I don’t eat beef or pork anymore. Do you think ground turkey will work good with this too?

If you don’t like the “traditional” red sauce….you must try using a can of tomato soup in with your tomato sauce! It is much better!!! And serve with a buttery mashed potato with some cream cheese in them!! Delish with these! My Grandmother was polish and passed this recipe to my Mother! Love this!

If there are some who don’t care for the sauce and some do, just set some in a dish on the side.

I’m making these tonight for my boyfriend (8yrs together) and our kids. It was the first American meal he ever had when he came from the Bahamas as a kid, so I wanted to bring that memory back for him 🙂

    5 stars
First time making cabbage rolls and they came out really really good. My kids are funny acting so I used Italian bread crumbs instead of rice. I also added sage, oregano, Tony’s creole seasoning, garlic power not garlic salt, a whole diced yellow onion and green bell pepper. I used a dozen cabbage leaves and still had stuffing left over so I froze it to cook again later. Definitely recommend trying this recipe!
