This southern fried chicken recipe makes moist chicken with a lick of heat.

My very first video recipe on YouTube was a fried chicken video. My younger brother, who loves my fried chicken, asked me to make some- and he actually recorded me while I made the chicken. I uploaded the video, and soon after people started asking me for other recipes! Since that video was so blurry ( because of my little cheap camera), I took it down. However here I am, again, with another fried chicken recipe that I know that you will love!

When making true southern fried chicken, I believe less is better. You do not need 10 herbs and seasonings, a complicated 24 hour brine, nor a egg mixture for this chicken. This chicken is going to be crispy on the outside and extremely juicy in the inside IF you follow this recipe. Don’t try to make any adjustments because you honestly don’t need to.

The secret to this chicken is the buttermilk. Make sure you brine the chicken in the buttermilk for 3-4 hours. No more, no less. Do NOT add any seasoning, sauces, or herbs to the buttermilk. Just let the buttermilk works its magic. Be sure to watch the video below, and definitely print this recipe because it’s a winner!

Yes you can. Just make sure you have enough oil in the skillet to deep fry. Also do crowd the skillet. 🙂

Been looking for the longest time to find a good southern fried chicken recipe, and now I have found it. So easy, and love the fact you say to use your fave seasonings. What the best trick was, seasoning the meat before coating in flour. You are the first person I came across saying that, brilliant!

Would it make a big difference if my chicken are soaked longer in the buttermilk, i.e. overnight instead of 3-4 hours?

If you have time, I soak it longer. It does taste better if you brine overnight

Hi Rosie,I came across one of ur video recipes on fb and am now an instant fan. Being a food lover and lover of cooking myself,I appreciate the step by step instructions and the flexibility of ur recipes. In regards to ur fried chicken recipe, which by the way looks scrumptious, I have a similiar fried chicken recipe that also calls for brining in buttermilk, however i also add hotsauce to the buttermilk,it adds that extra kick and flavor to the chicken. I cant wait to see what u post next 🙂
