Hey folks! Today, I am showing you how to make the BEST EVER baked turkey wings! When I originally posted this recipe, it was during the Thanksgiving holiday season as part of a series. I made a Sweet Potato Cheesecake and a Down-Home Cornbread Dressing along with these turkey wings for a complete and delicious holiday meal. Now it’s time for y’all to realize that turkey doesn’t have to be reserved for special occasions like holidays! With a recipe this good, you should be making baked turkey wings all. the. time!

Turkey wings are perfect for anyone who doesn’t like a whole turkey or for a family that just likes the wings. Maybe you don’t have a lot of people to feed and don’t want to waste food—this recipe is perfect for that too! Plus, turkey wings take A LOT less time to make and cost less (OMG, have you seen the price for whole turkeys these days?! Ain’t nobody got time for that!).

This baked turkey wings recipe is super easy to make; it’s basically foolproof! The secret is all in the seasonings (as it so often is!). So let’s dive on into it.

Why Use Turkey Wings? Why Not Legs, Thighs, or Turkey Breasts?

So, why am I pushing for y’all to use turkey WINGS? Well, truth be told, you can use this recipe for any part of the turkey (with adjusted cooking times, of course). Wings are the superior part of a turkey. They’re the most tender dark meat that stays perfectly juicy—none of that dry turkey nonsense here.

If you prefer turkey legs or thighs, or even the breast, you can use the same seasoning blend I provide in this recipe on any of those parts of a turkey. I do have a recipe on how to roast a whole turkey, so if you’re going for the entire bird, I suggest checking out that recipe instead.

This baked turkey wings recipe is seasoned to perfection and really caters to the tender meat of the wings. So you get that classic turkey flavor reminiscent of Thanksgiving without hassle.

Key Ingredients for the Best Baked Turkey Wings

To make this recipe, you need a few key ingredients. As always, I include the full ingredient list and exact measurements in the recipe card below. Here’s what you need:

  • Turkey Wings: as I said above, the wing is superior. Try a local butcher shop if you can’t find fresh or frozen turkey wings at your local grocery stores. For this recipe, feel free to buy whole wings and chop them up into pieces (I prefer to remove the wing tip).
  • Seasoning Blend: the seasonings we use are crucial to giving these baked turkey wings their out-of-this-world flavor. I’ll give you the complete list below!
  • Chicken Broth or Turkey Broth: I personally don’t notice a difference between the two—this recipe comes out great either way. If you can’t find regular turkey broth, try Better Than Bouillon, or make your own homemade turkey broth. Don’t have time? Chicken stock will do just fine.
  • Lemons or Lemon Juice: now, this may seem like an odd-ball ingredient but trust me, Cousins—you don’t want to skip it! Lemon juice really elevates the flavor of the turkey AND the seasonings. Once you try it, you’ll want to flavor all your poultry with lemon!

Baked Turkey Wing Seasoning Blend:

  • Onion powder and (dried) minced onions
  • Garlic powder and (dried) minced garlic
  • Seasoning salt
  • Poultry seasoning
  • Paprika
  • Dried parsley flakes
  • Salt & black pepper to taste

If you want authentic Southern flavor in a seasoning bottle, check out the variety of seasonings and spices we have at Rosamae Seasonings! We have seasoning salt and poultry seasoning (and salt-free versions of both), along with many other options for all your seasoning needs.

How to Make Oven-Baked Turkey Wings

Now, I promised an easy recipe, so I’m gonna deliver! This baked turkey wings recipe really is beginner-friendly and foolproof.

Step 1: Prep Turkey Wings

If you bought whole turkey wings, the first step is to prep the wings by chopping them up. Cut between the joint to separate the wingette (the flat part of the wing) and the drumette (or the drumstick). Cut off the wing tips and toss them or, better yet, save them to make homemade stock. You’ll also want to rinse the wings and pat them dry with paper towels. Finally, here comes the lemon. Quarter one lemon and rub one wedge over the surface of each turkey wing.

Step 2: Season to High Heaven

Next, toss your turkey wings into a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with some olive oil (or vegetable oil if you prefer), and then it’s time to season. Toss your turkey seasoning mixture into the bowl and make sure those wings are WELL COATED with all that flavorful goodness. (Note: If you watch my video tutorial below, I do not use flour in this recipe. The white powder is onion and garlic powder. You don’t need flour!)

Step 3: Bake Turkey Wings

Toss those seasoned wings into the baking vessel of your choice. You can use a casserole dish, baking dish, roaster pan, or even a Dutch oven. There will be leftover seasoning mix in the mixing bowl, so you’re going to pour the broth into the bowl, scoop up all those yummy spices, and then pour the broth into the baking dish. You don’t want to cover the chicken wings fully; you only need about two and a half cups.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake at 350 degrees F for one and a half to two hours, checking periodically. Use a meat thermometer to check the temperature—the wings are done when the thickest part of the wing reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.

How to Get Crispy Skin on Your Baked Turkey Wings

Uncover the baking dish for the last 10 minutes or so of cooking time to get a perfectly crispy skin on your wings. You could use the broiler as well.

FAQs, Chef Tips, and Serving Suggestions for Oven-Baked Turkey Wings

Now that you know how to make the best baked turkey wings, let’s answer some questions. If there’s anything I missed, feel free to comment below!

My turkey wings aren’t the same golden-brown color as yours; what did I do wrong?

You’ll want to use the broiler in your oven for a few minutes to achieve a perfect golden-brown, crispy turkey wing. This will crisp up the skin and ensure those tender, delicious juices stay locked inside the turkey meat.

I don’t like lemon. Can I omit or swap out the lemon juice?

I highly recommend not skipping the lemon juice, but you can omit it if you’re not a fan. You do you, boo boo!

What can I do with leftover turkey broth and pan drippings from my turkey wings?

You do NOT want to toss out all the flavor from the pan drippings and leftover broth. Instead, save it, freeze it to use later, or make a savory turkey gravy that’s perfect for smothered turkey wings. Serve the gravy with your baked turkey wings or as a topping for sides like mashed potatoes or roasted veggies.

Can I use chicken wings or drumsticks in this recipe?

Yes, this recipe would work just fine for chicken too! Chicken legs, wings, thighs, you name it. Keep an eye on the cooking times; chicken pieces will take less time since they’re typically smaller than turkey pieces.

Can I add vegetables to this recipe?

Yes! To make this a more complete recipe, feel free to roast some vegetables along with your baked turkey wings. Onions, peppers, potatoes, and carrots would all be a delicious addition.

What are the best sides for turkey wings?

You can serve just about anything with these baked turkey wings. Here are some of my favorite side dishes for baked turkey wings!

For Thanksgiving flavors, serve with:

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Green bean casserole
  • Candied yams
  • Homemade dinner rolls

For a Southern flair, serve turkey wings with:

  • Collard greens
  • Smothered potatoes and sausage
  • Cornbread or cornbread dressing

For everyday, easy sides, try:

  • Cauliflower rice or rice dressing
  • Creamy macaroni and cheese
  • Roasted Brussels sprouts with butternut squash and bacon

        JUST MY LUCK

We had to go on a diet (Audrey and I) to get healthy….Abused for 77 years and now I find you…You’re one hell of a cook Rosie…Wifey slipped into the category of borderline diabetic,

I had to get her off Meds and so, zero sugar…While at it I went gluton free and dairy free.
What a dull life we’re leading….Modified diet gave me replacements and her Dr, unaware of what I did, told her “See the Meds are working to control diabetes Yeah sure….When she told him I was responsible you should see the look…Doctors love Meds.. BTW her sugar levels are normal after 6 weeks..

Just a month or so more and pounds that are shedding and then back to a modified diet..

After all these years I am a believer that “You are what you eat”

but since I found you (shhhhhhhhh don’t tell a soul) I cheat on occasion..

Thanks for all your wonderful recipes and quick responses.. Stay well and have a happy Thanksgiving

        Mel

“•In the bowl that the wings were in, there will be leftover seasonings. Pour 2 1/2 cups of water into the bowl, stir, then pour the water into the bake dish.”

Will you please clarify which step to take.
Also, is that flour? It looks like you put flour on the wings.
Did you cover it the entire time of baking?
    Thanks

    Hi Rosie!

I need to make about 4lbs of the this meat, which is 5 wings pieces between these to packs. Could you help me modify this recipe to fit my quantity needs??? Also, are you using dried minced onion and garlic or freshly miniced???? I know that normally if you double your meat then you double your ingredients and increase the cooking time by 1/2x’s more, but I want to make sure I get it right the first time lol…..

HI Joshua! I’m so sorry for the SUPER late response. You can use either dry or fresh minced onion or garlic… If you double the portion, I’d cook it in separate pans, just to make sure everything cooks evenly.

Just made these wings today. Extra trip down yummy lane!!! The meat fell off the bone and the flavors were explosive. I didn’t have the parsley flakes, but will try and find them for next time. Also made the red beans and rice…..excellent!
    Will definitely try more.

I was reluctant to try it because I thought there was too much liquid and it would taste like something out of a crockpot. No way! It browned up beautifully and was till still toothsome yet tender. IOW, just perfect!

Rosie, I took meat from the freezer on Sunday fully anticipating that I would make Teriyaki wings for the family. To my surprise I had actually unfrozen Turkey Wings. I’ve never tried to cook them and had no idea what to do and I only had a few hours to get dinner prepared.

Thank God I found your blog. Your easy to follow recipe was absolutely delicious! I have a 14 year old son and my husband that love well seasoned food. The meat literally fell off of the bone and the flavor was define. I usually use the seasonings that you mentioned with the exception of the lemon. I tried it for the first time and I will always use lemon on poultry, as the flavor went to the next level.

Thanks so much for sharing your love for cooking and your gift for teaching with the world!

I tried out this recipe a few weeks ago, and my family loved it. I tried to make it again Sunday night without your recipe and they were edible but my mom and boyfriend said that they were way better the first time, when i watched your video as I went along. Also, not too mention, I ran out of season salt and and chicken broth but i used the other 1/2 cup of water. I think this time around I only had them in the oven for a little over an hour. Maybe the trick to juicy falling off the bone turkey wings is to let them cook for at least 2-3 hours. What do you think?

Oh Rosie, just to let you know — this is a DELICIOUS recipe! Wings aren’t common in my part of the country but the butcher did his thing with leftover turkeys from his magic refrigerator. Lo and behold turkey wings! 2 for $2.

The seasoning procedure would be awesome for a roast chicken.

Thank you and a most happy new year!

Thanks for sharing this recipe. I made it as written, without tweaking anything. The wings were very tasty and well-seasoned. I had leftovers the next day and they tasted even better. Because of this, the next time I make this I will season it and marinate it overnight before baking. I will also lower the amount of paprika. While I love the spice, I found 11/2 tbs to be too overpowering. I will probably decrease it to 1 tbsp and increase the poultry season by 2 tsp.

Also, for those of you wondering how many wings to cook – three medium wings turned out to be 2.75 lbs for me. One wing person was enough for my family. I really enjoyed this recipe and look forward to trying more of your delicious food.

Rosie, these wings are “Off The Chain”, thank you. I’ll be doing Thanksgiving alone this year due to Covid, and this is what I’ll be making. I did make a small change however. Instead of using broth or water, I use a can of “Cream of Celery”. It makes for a nice thick gravy.

    Thanks again!

My mother has been cooking for years and she’s pretty good but we found your blog about a year ago and we have never looked back. My entire thanksgiving is going to be A la Rosie this year . Cant wait for your cook book! I’m trying to go get some of the prep work out of the way do you think I can season overnight and then just pop in the oven or would the seasoning be overwhelming?

      Hi Key,

I was wondering the same thing, seasoning the night before. I decided against it because like yourself, I did not want the seasoning to be overwhelming. I’ve made these wings before and they came out sooo good. I guess I’ll leave well enough alone. Enjoy!

THIS IS THE BEST TURKEY RECIPE EVER! My husband and I are not turkey eaters. My husband will eat a leg, especially at the fair or something, but I am not into it. We bought turkey wings on clearance and expected it to be a meal to get us thru the week, nothing special. Good GOSH we ate it all. I followed Rosie’s instructions, made substitutes for some seasonings, and I used about 2 tbsp of corn starch at the end in the remaining cooking liquid to make a gravy, and added lots of salt to it, because our turkey ended up not getting salted… it didn’t matter. Hands down the best turkey I’ve ever eaten. My husband is upset at all other turkey he has eaten before because it wasn’t this good.

I’ve made these a few times now and I tell everyone once you taste the broth in the end, you just want to stick a straw into it! Wonderful recipe! I am thinking of trying it with chicken thighs next and have it on a regular weeknight.

I tried this recipe and it was really good. Since I am a single mom with one kid, this is my go to for me and him since I don’t need to cook a lot of food. I don’t eat pork so I dread going to partake with other people because a lot of times I can’t have any vegetables.

    Side dishes my son requires
    Green bean casserole
    Broccoli rice casserole
    Deviled eggs
    Frozen cranberry salad

    Must have desserts for him
    Regular cheesecake
    Pineapple cheesecake
    Pecan pie

Some consider cornbread dressing a side but we do not…its a main dish for us.

I really never had a favorite dude fish, but if I had to chose I would say homemade stuffing. My most favorite of all is the family getting together. Bigger than a Sunday dinner. This year will be so different. Less than a month ago the heart, soul and rock of the family went home to Jesus. My mother will be missed along with all her specialties. No matter how much you learn or try nothing ever tastes like your mothers cooking. Might get close, but never the same.

This recipe is absolutely scrumptious. I only add a teaspoon of Cumin and that’s because it is one of my favorite seasonings, especially Moroccan cumin. I bake mine in an inherited blue and white enamel roaster. I have several sizes and they brown the items very evenly and nicely. I am a 71 year old Virginian, who lived over ten years in New Orleans, and a great cook. Your tips and recipes have enhanced my skills and I am grateful. Please keep these delicious recipes rolling. My family loves them, especially the. Best Baked Turkey Wings ever. Thank you kindly!
