Hey guys and gals! It’s been getting pretty darn warm outside, and I need some sweet summer treats. A milkshake is one of my favorite treats when it gets hot outside. Not just any milkshake, though. I’m not a huge fan of plain chocolate or vanilla milkshakes. I tend to like “different” flavors – say, a Fruity Pebbles milkshake or a Mardi Gras frozen margarita.

So today, I’m sharing a super delicious pineapple and passionfruit milkshake recipe! It’s thick, creamy, easy to make, and packed with island flavor.

Pineapple Passionfruit Milkshake with Ben & Jerry’s Frozen Greek Yogurt

Now, here’s the deal. To make this tropical treat, I used Ben & Jerry’s. Their frozen Greek yogurt flavor is called Pineapple Passionfruit! This flavor was the bomb.com – packed with lots of pineapple chunks and passionfruit. I didn’t have to add any extra fruit to my shake.

Rosie holds a pint of Ben & Jerry's Pineapple Passionfruit Green Frozen Yogurt -- the base for this yummy tropical smoothie recipe.

However, the Pineapple Passionfruit Greek Yogurt was not one of their best sellers and is now no longer available, retired to their Flavor Graveyard. If you ever got your hands on this flavor, consider yourself lucky! If you live anywhere near one of their “Scoop Shop” storefronts, you might be able to find it there. If not, don’t you worry, Cousins! You can still make your very own pineapple passionfruit milkshake, and I’m gonna tell y’all how.

Ingredients for Tropical Pineapple Passionfruit Milkshakes

You only need a handful of ingredients to make your very own tropical island vibes pineapple passionfruit milkshake, and it’s ready in a few minutes! There’s nothing more refreshing than a smooth, creamy milkshake on a hot summer day, right?!

If you weren’t as lucky as I was to get your hands on the pineapple passionfruit Ben & Jerry’s, here’s what you need to make your own version:

  • Ice Cream or Frozen Yogurt: a simple vanilla ice cream is the perfect base for any milkshake.
  • Pineapple: you can use crushed pineapple or larger pineapple chunks if you really love bits and pieces of pineapple in your milkshake.
  • Passionfruit: use passionfruit pulp, frozen passionfruit chunks, canned passionfruit, or even the fresh stuff if you can find it!
  • Milk: use your preferred kind of milk – whole, skim, 2%, dairy, or non-dairy – it’s up to you!
  • Optional Toppings: no milkshake is complete without the fun garnishes! I like mine with whipped cream, sprinkles, and a cherry on top.

I want to use ice cream; what’s the best brand or flavor besides vanilla?

If you’re dead set on not using plain ol’ vanilla ice cream (I don’t blame you one bit), I’d recommend going for a pineapple ice cream or sorbet base. It’ll be easier to find pineapple ice cream than passionfruit ice cream or a blend of the two. Here are some options:

  • Haagen Daz Pineapple Coconut Ice Cream
  • Cedar Crest Pineapple Sherbet
  • Dole Pineapple Dole Whip

How to Make a Homemade Pineapple Passionfruit Milkshake

Once you’ve got all your ingredients together, this simple tropical milkshake couldn’t be any easier to make!

If you watch my video tutorial, you’ll see I use a small immersion blender to make my pineapple passionfruit milkshake right in the glass. However, you can also make it in a regular blender.

  1. Add 1.5 cups of ice cream and 1/4 cup each of pineapple and passionfruit to a blender, along with ½ cup milk.
  2. Blend until it reaches your desired consistency.
  3. Pour the milkshake into a glass and garnish with the toppings of your choice.

That’s it! A quick and easy, refreshing tropical milkshake in about 2 minutes, flat. How easy was that?!

This recipe makes one single serving, but it’s super easy to double or triple it to make plenty of milkshakes for friends and family as well.

Healthy Twist: Pineapple Passionfruit Smoothie

Okay, Cousins. So, let’s just say that some of y’all are working on your beach bodies. Some of your beautiful people are watching your figures. I hear y’all screamin’… “But Cousin Rosie! How many CALORIES are in a pineapple passionfruit milkshake?! How can I make this healthier?!”

I hear y’all! So, you want a tropical smoothie with sweet pineapple and passionfruit flavor without the added calories of ice cream. I gotchu. A sweet tropical smoothie will be thinner and less creamy than a milkshake but equally as flavorful and refreshing.

  • Use ice or frozen fruit as a base. This will give you a creamier, thicker consistency.
  • Use real fruit juice. Pineapple juice and passionfruit juice are easily found on grocery store shelves. You could also add additional tropical flavors like mango and lime!
  • To add texture, use real fruit puree – you can also find pineapple and passionfruit puree in most grocery stores.
  • Add protein powder. If you like making protein shakes before workouts or as a meal replacement, adding a scoop of protein powder will bulk up the smoothie, making it more filling!
  • To make it extra creamy, just like a milkshake, use organic coconut cream for a healthy option. Coconut cream is unsweetened but super creamy. The sugar in the fruit will naturally sweeten the smoothie without added sugar!
  • You could also use cream of coconut, but that is sweetened, which might make your smoothie too sweet, so use caution when shopping!
  • Make it non-dairy by using any variety of non-dairy milk, like almond milk, soy milk, or oat milk.

Of course, another health tip is to use all organic ingredients if you can – fresh organic passion fruit, organic protein blend, etc. If you still want to enjoy all the tropical flavors of a pineapple passionfruit milkshake without all the “guilt,” go for the healthiest, most authentic ingredients you can find.

The Best Toppings for a Tropical Milkshake (or Smoothie)

Saving the best for last – the toppings! Like I said earlier, no milkshake is complete without a garnish. You can garnish your milkshake with whatever you like. I keep it simple: whipped cream, some sprinkles, and a bright red, juicy maraschino cherry. But of course, there are other options!

  • Fresh fruit wedges or chunks (pineapple, orange slices, fresh passionfruit, or mango)
  • Sweetened shaved coconut flakes or dried organic coconut chips (unsweetened)
  • Boba pearls (little tapioca pearls filled with sweet fruit juice)

Can you think of any other tasty toppings for your tropical milkshakes? Let me know in the comments!

So, there you have it, Cousins! A tasty, refreshing homemade pineapple passionfruit milkshake made with or without Ben & Jerry’s! Even if you can’t get your hands on the perfect tropical-flavored frozen yogurt, you can still enjoy this sweet summertime treat.
