(Originally Titled Rosie’s Peach Cobbler Recipe!)

When I first started uploading soul food recipes online, peach cobbler was one of my most requested recipes.  Everyone wanted to know how I made my cobbler. Some wanted to know if I used bisquick. Others wanted to know if I topped my cobbler with a crisp. But the biggest mystery was whether If I use fresh, frozen, or canned peaches for my cobbler.

Mix large peaches with the crust for your cobbler

So what do I use? I actually do it all. However, my FAVORITE Peach Cobbler Recipe will probably always be my original recipe that I uploaded back in 2011 ( I know I say they’re all my favorite, but this one is truly my FAV!!). Back then I called it ” Rosie’s Peach Cobbler”, and referred to it as my busy mom peach cobbler because it is quick and easy to make.

Tasty and crispy dough with the peaches

For this soulful peach cobbler I use store bought pie dough, and canned peaches in heavy syrup. This cobbler has dumplings throughout the filling, and there is plenty of cobbler juice( just like soul food peach cobbler should have). I use cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger to spice up the cobbler. However, if you’re not a fan of ginger, you can leave it out.

Hi Rosie, I was wondering which Peach cobbler recipe you recommend for Thanksgiving dinner, Grandma’s or yours? What if sort of combined them by using grandma’s southern peach cobbler crust instead of store bought, but I follow this recipe the rest of the way? My husband loves the peach part but I love the dumpling. So I’m trying to meet in the middle.

Hi Shondra! The biggest difference is the crust. If you don’t feel like making it from scratch, definitely use this one. If you’re down for making the crust – Grandmas 😉

I’m doing the deserts this year as well as the sweet potatos. Am planning to do your red velvet cheesecake recipe and this peach cobbler. What difference have you found in pre-baking the dumpling strips? Just curious.

Will also do your baked candied yams. The recipe mentions white sugar but not how much.

My grandson prefers sweet potato souffle or mashed. Do you have a recipe for that as well?

Hi Eileen. The sugar amount is indeed listed for the yams 🙂 . Also, baking the dough before adding it to the cobbler makes the dumplings more firm.

THE BEST peach cobbler! My entire family loves it! The first time I made it, I used your recipe for pie crust from your sweet potato pie recipe. YUM! Perfect! Then, I tried to make it again with a store bought crust. The taste doesn’t come close to your pie crust recipe! The extra time is most definitely worth it. I will be making it again tonight because my entire family’s taste buds keep screaming for more!

Hey cousin! Lol!!I just tried your recipe and it was amazing! I used 2.5 lbs fresh peaches and real butter for the crust. ( Don’t give me the eye roll but I didn’t have any butter flavored shortening. ) I never heard of adding baked “dumplings” to the mix. So I rolled them thin and baked for about 12 minutes to get them nice and crispy so they can hold up to that juice during baking. Oh my! This cobbler doesn’t disappoint. Made my tongue slap my brains out! For everyone on the fence about trying it—just make it, the best ever!! Thanks for sharing ..this is my new go to recipe.

Thank you Rosie for this recipe! It was so simple and easy to make. Just a handful of ingredients and it so delicious! I needed just a bit more pie crust on top to cover the corners; but it still worked out great!
